Studio creator and Final Fantasy XV director Hajime Tabata ultimately left Luminous Productions before the studio could finish all the planned DLCs, forcing Square Enix to release the planned story content in the form of a novel, Final Fantasy XV: The Dawn of the Future. Luminous Productions was initially created to help produce Final Fantasy XV and its DLCs. It will be the first fully original title released by Luminous Productions, an internal studio at Square Enix, where Aramaki is currently the head. Like Forspoken, Final Fantasy XVI will be a PlayStation 5 console exclusive, allowing each game's respective fantasy setting to be rendered in extremely high quality. Final Fantasy XVI is set in the world of Valisthea, which looks very similar to Forspoken's Athia. The studio is also developing Final Fantasy XVI, which seems to follow a similar open-world format. The parkour system is reminiscent of Dying Light 2 or Insomniac's Spider-Man games, swapping zombies and supervillains out for towering dragons.įorspoken isn't Square Enix's only upcoming action RPG, though. Forspoken is focused on agile, fast-paced, movement-driven gameplay with a highly involved magic system. Frey's place in Athia will lend the game a more contemporary tint, while the game's next-gen exclusivity will allow for exceptionally detailed environments. Athia looks an awful lot like many other open-world fantasy game settings - think the eponymous country of Skyrim, the Continent from The Witcher 3 and Elden Ring's Lands Between. The open-world action RPG centers on Frey Holland, a modern-day New Yorker flung into the magical world of Athia, isekai-style. On July 6, the official Forspoken Twitter account announced that, following "ongoing discussions with key partners," the game would be delayed to January 24, 2023. Forspoken, the latest action RPG from Square Enix, has been delayed from its original 2022 release date and is now expected to release in 2023.
